Democracy School Surveys

This survey will reveal student insights to both civic learning experiences and organizational culture of your school. You will need to administer the survey to a representative sample of the student body. To be representative, the sample should reflect student demographics in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, parental educational attainment, and ability levels. Upper classman may be preferred given the survey’s focus on civic learning experiences in high school only. You can consider administering the survey to students in required social studies classes in various grades.

2. Teacher Survey (required): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SKCSCG2
This survey will reveal teacher insights to both civic learning experiences and your organizational culture. You will need to administer the survey to a sample of your school faculty. Ideally, all members of your social studies department will complete the survey, along with a significant number of teachers in other academic departments.

3. Leader Survey (required)

Like the teacher survey, this survey will reveal insights to both civic learning experiences and your organizational culture, but from a broader perspective. You will need to administer the survey to the principal and members of his/her leadership team.

4. Learning Experiences Course Assessment (required): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SKX2SZT
This survey will reveal insights into the civic learning experiences within a range courses offered to students. Ideally, the courses surveyed will represent social studies and other disciplines.

This survey will reveal the civic opportunities available to students through extracurricular activities.

This survey will reveal how parents/guardians perceive civic learning experiences and the organizational culture of your school. Also attached to this email is some sample communication you can modify to share with parents/guardians to explain the purpose of the survey.
